Dr. Jay Sang Ryu specializes in place branding/marketing, retail technology, and innovative retail formats. His research focuses on identifying how retail technology and digital marketing influence consumer behavior in the omni-channel retail environment and how product image contributes to branding cities and countries. Dr. Ryu has published and presented his research in referred journals and at academic conferences. He is a recipient of the Cotton Incorporated research grant and Stockholm Program of Place Branding (STOPP) fellowship grant. With various industry experiences in buying, merchandising, and product sourcing in global retailers, Dr. Ryu applies hands-on knowledge and real-world examples to classroom instruction and utilizes international experiences to help students build a global mindset. He is actively involved in professional associations including the American Collegiate Retailing Association (ACRA), Global Alliance of Marketing and Management Associations (GAMMA), and International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA).
